Flex Editor Widget fields alphabetically sorted, ignoring MXD layer field order.

I am working on a Flexviewer sample. Have Arcgis 10, SQL Server express, SDE database with a single feature class (point layer) that i am editing. I can add, edit and delete.

I have a published MXD to arcgis server, that has layer, with 4 feature templates based on a sub type of one of the fields.

The flexviewer editor widget seems to ignore the layer field order set in the MXD and use the database fields alphabetically sorted. I have looked at the response from the REST query and the layer templates fields are not alphabetically sorted. Also seems to ignore if I turn off or alias fields as well.

Is there any way of changing this without doing a custom editor widget?

I have found it does use the field aliasing, but I needed to restart the arcgis map service, and also clear the REST cache.

The flex viewer editor widget or flex api, not sure which, does sort the layer fields alphabetically. The only work around i have found is to place a number in the field aliase. eg 1. field1 2. field2 3. field3 etc. to force the field order I want in the editor.

Thanks for the advice. I tried restarting the service and clearing the cache without any luck. I used the work around and it seems to be just fine. Thanks again

I'd like to add a feature request here for Field Order to be honored. I'm facing the same frustration as damianslee and feel that, despite his solution working admirably, we shouldn't have to go through this...
