Zooming capablities for default basemap layers

Does anyone know how to zoom in on the basemaps provided in the config.xml file past the default? I need to zoom in to see signalized intersections and all the related infrastructure. I like the default basemap layers and do not want to use in-house layers. Thanks!

Hi there,

What you are asking for is not possible. The basemaps that are preconfigured in the config.xml file of the Viewer are cached map services from ArcGIS Online. You can't zoom in "more" (i.e., to higher scales) on the basemaps, because the Viewer's highest zoom-in level is accessing the highest level (i.e., greatest resolution) of the cached map tiles for the services.

Once you have set up caching, you are confined to the scales that you have cached. It does not work this way in ArcGIS desktop, which maybe why you're confused. If you were to create a single cached service of your own that had a scale closer to what you wanted, the site should then be able to go to that scale, but you won't see the other layers.
