ecw as basemap?

Hello all,

Not sure where to put this post - could put it here, or in Imagery and Raster forum, or in ArcGIS Server general..but anyway. I might try those others if I don't get anything here.

I have an ecw format aerial. I would like to put this in an mxd and create a service out of it to use as my basemap in my flex viewer 2.1 website. However, I see this http://resources.arcgis.com/content/kbase?fa=articleShow&d=32824 .

I know I'm missing something and I know this isn't the fastest way to serve up this image. I'm not clear on this stuff and I also don't know what ArcGIS Image Server is (although it sounds interesting...I think it's an extention that would serve images faster?) But I think it will work right? Does anyone have any suggestions?

So have you purchased your ecw license as the the article outlines?

Upon purchase of a license from ERDAS

If so did you followed the rest of the three steps listed in the procedures section f the article?
