Problem solved - and it was so simple I overlooked it. Two of the layers were sourced from shapefiles on a local server, not from feature classes in our SDE geodatabase. Once I fixed that, all was golden.:D

Has anyone reading experienced a particular map service configured as an operational layer not appearing in the legend? I have tried several other map services and they all appear. This service was created in ArcGIS 10. It is a dynamic msd service. Thanks.

Have you tried a different dynamic map service?

Hi Ryan,

Yes, I have tried several other dynamic map services. Every one I've tried showed up in the legend. I have also tried this map service in another Flex application. It doesn't show in the legend there either. Thanks for the reply.

Mark

Perhaps it has something to do with the symbology of the map service. Could you try copying some of the layers from the broken map service into one of the working dynamic map services and then see if it shows up in the legend? That way you can tell if it's the layer or the symbology that is causing the problem or if it's the map service itself

Thanks for the idea.

There are 22 layers in four layer groups. What I did was create a separate mxd for each group, then save each as MSD, created a service for each, then add all services to the Flex Viewer. I discovered that all but one of the msds appear in the legend. Now I know (I think) that there is a problem with one or more of the layers in that one group.
