Hi team,

Has anyone tried to have an Electric Utility Network and a Comms Utility Network on the same geodatabase? Did it go well? Could we have Electric poles and Comms equipment attached together?

Or even someone who has successfully created a Comms UN????

Thanks,

Dani

Hi Dani

I have tested applying the Comms Foundation model to the Electric Foundation models and have not experienced any issues. I have actually done a few demos of this. Yes, the structures are shared between the two domain networks. That includes, poles, Conduit and Duct Banks. Generally when I have done this I only pick the Distribution Cable configuration from the Comms model just to reduce the number of asset groups.

Like @JohnAlsup said, this is standard UN functionality.

You can have many domain networks but exactly one structure network.
The structure network will have have to have all asset types needed by Electric and Comms network. You may need specific types for comms network (microducts, etc)

The comms devices can be associated to pole via structure attachment rule.
Linear features will need an comms junction placed on top and that comms junction can be attached to the pole.

We own a fibre network within our electricity distribution network. Plan is to migrate it to UN this year but our model is going to be bespoke and extremely simplified.
We do not serve individual customers on our network, just interconnects between substations.

We will have Fibre Cable (overhead and underground), Splice Closure (generic), Strands, and connectors.
We won't be modelling trays, splitters, loops, etc.

Hi Dani

We created our own data model with one structure network, and an electric and communication domain network. Our comms is just the bearer network (not all the individual fibres). We have had no issues with both electric and communication equipment on the same poles, or in the same trench and conduit systems.

Damien
