Hi, I have a question regarding the 'Load data into the ArcGIS Utility Network' tutorial. In the 'Create Simple Mappings' section, specifically when using the 'Create Simple Mapping' tool, I am confused about the 'Source Types' parameter. Why is it written this way? I don't fully understand this step. Could you please help me understand the purpose of this step and when I should use it?

If your source data uses subtypes you can ignore this parameter. This parameter allows customers to identify fields that can be used to help classify the features in their source data in a way that makes them easier to create mappings for. One example we use in the tutorial is the fitting layer defines all the different types of fittings using the fittingtype field. By putting that field in the source types parameter the tool will automatically look at the contents of that field in your source data and create separate mappings for each type of fitting in your data. This save you from having to manually create separate rows for your different types of fittings (end cap, coupling, etc).

In this same tutorial, we create the data mapping Excel file. However, when I try to assign the Asset Type, several types that I need are not included in the file. I used a Water Expanded Data Dictionary to add the Asset Group Names, Types, and Codes. However, I am having a hard time editing the groups for the lookup. Am I doing it correctly, or is there another way of adding types and codes?

The tutorials are meant to walk you through a specific workflow. It does include steps for adding asset types for a model (step 9 of populate simple mappings). But if the asset groups and codes you want to use are already in the expanded model then you should use the CreateNetworkCopyingWorkbook and ApplyNetworkCopyingWorkbook tools to add them to your asset package.

@PatrickCowan or @MikeMillerGIS are there any instructions or guides for using these tools?

In the Water data migration tutorial, the user is walked through using the Create and Apply Network Copying Workbooks in the Expand the Model section. That would give you the workflow of how to use the tools.
