Will circular associations be problematic?

Hi there

Assume I have associations stating that assembly A contains assembly B in turn containing device C will having assembly A also contain device C directly (somewhat circular references) be allowed / problematic?

Hi Jens,

I'm curious about your specific use case. I could see this use of associations in plants. I initially misread your message as inquiring device C containing A, which would be circular. I might suggest this is a sort of optional middle assembly/grouping.

The assembly b is not optional. Yet, allowing ALSO associating device c directly to assembly a (whilst also associating device c to assembly b being associated to assembly a) serves a specific purpose.

You're right - it is not really circular in nature; More parallel association chains.

So Esri, would this be problematic?

A device can only have one parent container. There is a bug that I think was fixed in patch 6 that resolves this.

OK, so even we wanted to add to parents we couldn't. well, that clears any concerns 😉 Not possible.

Does that go for devices only?

Junctions, Device and JunctionObjects can only have one parent container.
