Custom Upstream Electric Trace to nearest Protective Device

I have completed importing my existing electric dataset from a file GDB into the new Electric Utility Network for ArcGIS Pro. Ive spent hours going thru and fixing errors and ensuring the connectivity model is error free. The next thing I am working on is doing specific traces on the network. One of the requests from my field crews it to have the ability to select a specific location and trace upstream to find the nearest protective device that they can operate to isolate an area. Yes, the trace feature for upstream would accomplish that. However, I want to be able to tell the trace to stop when it finds a device under Electric Device --> Medium Voltage Fuse --> Overhead Cutout Fused Disconnect (Asset Type). I have attempted to do a Trace Configuration but all my attempts are not working and unable to find any clear directions online on how to accomplish this.

Appreciate any feedback

Try keeping the traversability section of the trace configuration the way you normally would for an upstream trace, and enter a Filter to stop at overhead fuses.

Thank you for the info. I am close to my goal. I have it set up in the Filter Barriers to stop at a specific Device Asset Group. However, how do I select to specify an Asset Type? In the Name drop-down, it doesn't give me an option for Asset Type. The goal is Asset Group: 37 (Medium Voltage Switch) and Asset Type: 732 (Overhead Three Phase Disconnect).

I think you can create a network attribute based on asset type if one doesn't already exist ("Asset Type" shows up in my drop-down).

That said, I would strongly recommend that you instead create a Category called "ProtectiveDevice" and assign it to the Overhead Three Phase Disconnect asset type. That way in the future if you wanted the trace to stop at other protective devices, you could just assign the category to these additional asset types. (In the screenshot below, I have the category called "Protective" but I assume you get the general idea)

Rich:

HUGE help. It is pretty much doing what I want to do. However, if I wanted to escalate this process and once the trace has found the first upstream device/switch, how could I program the trace to find the next device/switch after that. The purpose is if we run a trace and unable to operate the first device, would want to know what the 2nd device could be to operate, if need to be.

Example: First device is an Medium Voltage Fuse - Overhead Cutout Fused Switch. BUT, we also want to know what the Medium Voltage Switch - Overhead Three Phase Disconnect switch is upstream of that fuse.

Thank You

To run the subsequent trace, you would want to set a new starting point at the result of the first trace. Does this help?

In the Electric Foundation model, we have a number of categories already defined. You would probably want to use the category E:Switching to find any switchable device or E:Load Break to find a Load Breaking device, like a Overhead Fused Cutout Load Breaking. To find Disconnect, you would use the Category of E:Disconnect in your trace.

As for your last question, you could write a python script to perform the initial and subsequent traces until you encounter a Subnetwork Controller.

I had one final question that is puzzling me and I believe, I hope, this should lead me further to the final product. When I run a downstream trace of a subnetwork trace, the low voltage service(s) are not selected, which means I am unable to pick them up in the trace or connect them to the subnetwork(s). Is there a setting or definition that not configured properly? They are snapped to the endpoint of the low voltage conductor.

In our sample data in the Electric Distribution Tier, the secondary should be included as part of each subnetwork. Debugging this will probably require a little more interaction. You can email me directly and we can setup a call where I can work with you. My email address is jalsup@esri.com.
