Trouble Selecting a Symbol After Changing Window Flow Direction

I'm having trouble selecting a symbol after setting the flow direction of the window from 'Left to Right' to 'Right to Left'. The main window looks like this:

With the default flow direction the graphic can be selected properly, but after selecting RightToLeft the graphic is no longer selectable. I am selecting the graphic as follows:

I am setting the flow direction of the window directly:

Attached is a small test app. Could there possibly be another way to select a symbol?

Note: I am using ArcGIS/2009, 10.2.6
