    <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Hi Derek,&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;It is possible to read data from a shapefile.&amp;nbsp; However, it would not be contained in a Map Package as the packaging process converts data sources to File Geodatabase.&amp;nbsp; You can reference data in a Runtime enabled package, and the Runtime supports referenced shapefiles.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;It is possible to create a new shapefile with Georprocessing.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
