We have a few goals, but the big one is to be able to indicate the source of the location data (Core Location versus an external service) by changing how the location point is drawn. This can be achieved through some other UI element, and that is what I will recommend to my team in the short term. Another possibility is to have a vehicle representation when zoomed in fairly close to the ground and then switch to something more abstract, such as the existing blue dot, when zoomed out further.

Are there any options for changing the location symbol dynamically or performing custom rendering of the symbol? I have tried the static approach of using replacements for the three PNGs in the app bundle, but that is not sufficient for the cases I am trying to address. If there were some sort of hook where I could perform custom rendering as a replacement for the SDK using those PNGs, I would definitely have more than enough flexibility.

Patrick -

This is a great idea. Can you tell us how you plan to use it?

Unfortunately, you cannot change location symbols on the fly at this time. We could look to adding it in a future release.
