Is it currently possible to sideload a basemap for use in QuickCapture? And if not, is this planned for a future version?

We need the ability to get our basemap on our devices without having to transfer it through our slow internet even once or think about it after the initial copy.

No, at this time it is only possible by downloading it.

Please see this ArcGIS Idea where they have marking it as "under consideration" in the context of supporting sideloading map packages.

https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-quickcapture-ideas/support-offline-map-areas-in-quickcapture/idi-p/1165575

Yes, you can sideload a map onto your device and have it used by QuickCapture. You just need to replace the Esri default offline map with your own. This is from the help:

The Esri default offline map is a .vtpk file that is copied to the device during installation. This file—esri_default.vtpk—can be replaced with your own file of the same name, of any of the supported offline file types: .tpk, .vtpk, or .mmpk. Once replaced, the map will be viewable in any project opened while the device is offline. This file is located in the maps folder on the device in the following places:

Windows—C:\Users\<username>\ArcGIS\QuickCapture\resources\maps

Android—Internal Storage/Android/data/com.esri.quickcapture/files/ArcGIS/QuickCapture/resources/maps

iOS—QuickCapture/ArcGIS/ArcGIS QuickCapture/resources/maps

If the app is reinstalled, any replaced files will be deleted and the Esri default offline map reinstated.

Thanks @JohnathanHasthorpe I'm using an Android 13 device and unfortunately when I tried it just now, I can't access the internal file path for Android data. The path is not replicated on my SD card. I created the path on my SD card, but it doesn't seem to have worked. I have a tpk. I triple-checked my path. Has anyone been able to side load an esri_default.tpk (or any extension really) on their SD card?

Hi,

We also just were able to sideload a basemap (.tpk) although a .tpkx file did not work. One issue my coworker pointed out though if you are replacing the default base map with your own map then this will now be the base map in ALL your offline QuickCapture projects which isn't what we want.

We also use field maps a lot and there you can sideload basemaps but then refer to them in the offline map project settings so users can have multiple basemaps sideloaded onto their devices for different projects.

The current solution in QuickCapture replacing the default does not seem too versatile solution.

Thanks,
Kathy

@JeanFujikawa - unfortunately, QuickCapture does not support SD cards. We are aware that Android has started to restrict view access to local file storage when viewed on the phone. However, you should be able to browse the folder if you plug your phone into a computer using a USB cable.

For example:

This PC\Pixel 8\Internal shared storage\Android\data\com.esri.arcgisquickcapture\files\ArcGIS\ArcGIS QuickCapture\resources\maps
