As Dan mentioned below, then a clean uninstall and a clean reinstall may be best vs. a soft reset of ArcGIS Pro. I did this workflow when I recently upgraded to ArcGIS Pro 3.5 and have had zero performance issues with the software.

Hello,

I am using ArcGIS Pro 3.5.1. Recently the software has become extremely slow — even right-clicking on a layer can take up to 10 minutes to respond.

I’ve already uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but the issue persists. Although my data are usually stored on an external drive, I copied one of the projects to my C drive to rule out that factor, but it didn’t resolve the problem either.

I’m wondering if there could be another underlying issue that I’m not aware of. I would really appreciate any help you can provide to troubleshoot and resolve this problem.

Thank you,
Pouran Behnia

When uninstalling ArcGIS Pro, I deleted Esri folder from the Roaming and Local folders and reinstalled ArcGIS Pro. So Do I need to perform the soft reset?

In the "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\ESRI" I don't have the " ArcGISPro.exe_StrongName" folder.

I would test the newly installed ArcGIS Pro application and test to see if you're seeing poor performance. If not, then no, you do not need to perform a soft reset. My guess is uninstalling and reinstalling ArcGIS Pro deleted the ...*StrongName" folder.

A clean uninstall and reinstall didn’t solve the problem. It seems the issue is related to the external drive. I copied all the data to the C drive of my desktop computer, created a new project, and ensured it reads all the data from there, with no layers referencing the external drive. It appears to be working fine. However, the external drive functions without any issues when connected to my laptop.

Ah I see. So external disk drives are great for storage but very poor for any ArcGIS Pro operations such as geoprocessing tools, display, etc. Best practice is to have your data locally on your PC and/or a fast network share/drive. Problem: ArcGIS pro and Cloud Storage Services
