ArcGIS Pro Map acting weird - having an unexpected transparent area on the map if layer is added

Hi,

My ArcGIS Pro is acting weird lately, see the screenshot below. If I add a shapefile or geodatabase to the map (in the screenshot, the pink line is a shapefile added to the map), some transparent areas with color will pop up and block the basemap (in the screenshot, the beige, green, and grey areas are blocking the basemap). If I do not display the layer, the basemap will be fine and the transparent areas will be gone. Any ideas what happened and how to resolve this?

That IS strange! A few things to try...

1. In the Catalog Pane, right-click on the layer and select Properties. For the layer properties, select the indexes tab on the right, expand the Spatial Index property and click Recalculate if that's enabled or Create if the Recalculate is not enabled.
2. Copy/paste the "wonky" layer to a new feature class or shapefile and see if the new layer performs the same.
3. This is somewhat extreme, but you could do a soft reset of ArcGIS Pro and see if that helps - How To: Perform an ArcGIS pro Soft Reset

I would check to ensure the Envelope defined for the Shapefile includes all the features. Try opening the shapefile in ArcMap (if you have it still 🙂 and select Zoom to Extent for the Feature Class (FC) and see where it takes you. Also, look at the extent properties for the FC and ensure your pink lines actually are within them.

Thank you, Robert! I have tried the first option, but still got the same weird situation. I guess the issue was not with a specific layer, shapefile, or geodatabase, since every file I added to the Map would result in a similar wonky view, even after I re-calculated the spatial index. See the screenshot below.

I will probably need to try the soft reset when I get the chance.

Thank you, Richard! I tried the zoom to function and got reasonable results. I think the issue was not caused by one specific shapefile, since every shapefile - even the one that used to work fine - would cause this wonky view now.
