Geocoding services??

Hi all,

I'm trying to geocode a small-ish table of ~8700 entries, all locations in Colorado. I started trying this in Pro 3.3.1 and updated to 3.4.2 and am still having the same problem. I've tried selecting multiple different geocoding services from AGOL and I get an error message with every single one that I "cannot use the selected locator for batch geocoding."

I tried the ArcGIS World Geocoding Service first and I've tried a bunch of others. None of them work. I'm logged in with my organizational account, I don't know what gives.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or if there's some sort of glitch? Should I have a locator installed as part of my Pro package? I can't find one anywhere and I don't think I have a good layer file to use to create my own.

UPDATE: I called Support, which I never do anymore, and it sounds like there's an extra add-on or extension I need to buy to be able to geocode?? I'm really confused by this because we used to be able to geocode in Map, no problem, and geocoding seems like a really standard function. Does anyone have experience with this? I have an Advanced Pro license with Spatial Analyst and a number of other add-ons/ extensions under an organizational account. I've read a number of Esri info pages on geocoding and locators and none of them mentioned having to have some extra add-on to geocode.

Are you getting a warning about AGOL credit consumption when trying to use ArcGIS World Geocoding service?

@AvaFarouche - there is a Tech Support paper on this error message here - Error: Invalid Locator: Cannot Use the Selected Locator for Batch Geocoding - maybe this will help resolve the issue?

I was just looking at that. I read a number of other Esri info pages on geocoding and locators but I should have just looked for the error message right away. I guess I need another add on/ extension just so I can geocode now??? That's frustrating. We used to be able to geocode in Map with no fancy anything but now I need to buy some new extra add-on to perform what seems like a really basic mapping function. That makes me grumpy. I'll try to figure out how to do it in googleearth or something I guess.

I think it's only the North American StreetMap Premium that requires the license. If you're using the World Geocoding Service, then it will consume credits from one's ArcGIS online account. You can learn about credits here - Understand credits—ArcGIS Online Help | Documentation - according to the documentation, it consumes 40 credits per 1000 addresses. You can create your own address locator using a streets layer locally that will consume zero credits. I've used the World Geocoding Service regularly and it does a great job address matching.

I've been trying to use the World Geocoding Service and the only thing I can figure is that I don't have some license I need because it won't work. I was prepared to use credits for it but I can't even do that without some extra add on license. I don't want to have to figure out how to make my own locator for this but I guess I'll have to. I was already reading up on it.

I don't think it's a license thing honestly. A couple things to explore:
