Tile LAS (3D Analyst) Error: "The specified index is out of range."

I am using the Tile LAS (3D Analyst) tool to create tiled las files from a las dataset. The tiling options are set to 'Import from Feature Class,' and both the input Feature Class and the LAS dataset use a geographic coordinate system.

Here is the error message:

ERROR 999999: Something unexpected caused the tool to fail. Contact Esri Technical Support (http://esriurl.com/support) to Report a Bug, and refer to the error help for potential solutions or workarounds.

This tool functions correctly when applied to a lasdataset in a projected coordinate system.

Does this mean it is also compatible with a geographic coordinate system? Your expert advice is highly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, I had a similar problem using the 'LAS Dataset to Raster' tool. The tool failed with Error 999999 and 'The specified index is out of range.'

Eventually I discovered that two of my 106 LAS files had projection (prj) files that were incorrect (in my case they should have all been New Zealand Transverse Mercator and NZ Vertical Datum 2016 but two were WGS84).

I found that Tile LAS (3D Analyst) tool does not work for the las files in a geographic coordinate system.

You mentioned that "two of my 106 LAS files had projection (prj) files ... were WGS84)." Maybe this is the reason why it does not work.
