Based on Shapefiles it should work in Pro. Maybe try importing it to your gdb first as a feature class rather than "Add Data". If the error still shows up then the data owner might have to fix it.

Another option could be ulpoad the Zip file to AGOL as a hosted feature layer (AGOL will automatically detect the contents of the zip so no need to extract it youself). If it uploads there then you can add it to Por via Catalog > My Content

Further reading

ArcGIS Shapefile Files Types & Extensions

Greetings!

I just downloaded a couple shapefiles from a state agency that I work with frequently. I noticed when I extracted the shapefiles that some parts were missing. The only parts that are included are .shp, .dbf, .prj and .shx. So the .sbn and .sbx components of the shapefile are missing.

But, I tried to add the data anyway, just to see, and of course I get the error message that Data failed to add.

Is there any way I can fix this or do I just have to get the source/creator to fix the data?

Thank you!!

you can also try to run the "Check Geometry" tool to see if it fixes it.

Thanks for your suggestions! I tried all of those things and they didn't work - but then I realized there was a naming error with the components. I had renamed the whole shapefiles through Pro before I tried adding to my map in the first place. I had gotten a number of errors doing that, even though it's something I do frequently, but eventually fixed it. What I didn't realize was that not all of the component names fully changed. Some of them fully changed, some of them reflected part of the change. Very weird, I've never seen that happen before, so I hadn't checked it in Windows after renaming through Pro. But, I just changed all of the component names to match in Windows Explorer once I realized the problem, added them to the map again, and everything worked. So it was my error.
