Hi,

I'm trying to create a new cost, but the cost drop-down menu is greyed out. What do I need to do?

Hi there,

If the Cost drop-down menu is greyed out, it usually means one of the following:

Network Dataset Not Built Yet
- Make sure you’ve run the Build Network tool after defining your attributes.
- Without a built network, some UI elements remain inactive.
Missing or Misconfigured Attribute
- Go to the Attributes tab in the Network Dataset Properties.
- Confirm that your cost attribute (e.g., Minutes or Meters) is listed and properly configured.
Evaluator Not Set
- In the Evaluators tab, check that each source (e.g., Streets, Streets_Override) has a valid evaluator for the cost attribute.
- If it’s set to “None” or the field is missing, the drop-down will be disabled.
Missing Field in Source Data
- Make sure the source feature class has a field with valid numeric values for the cost (e.g., travel time or distance).
- If the field is empty or missing, the attribute won’t activate.

Once these are set up, rebuild the network and the drop-down should become active.
