Selection tool

Make a selection with polygon, then I want to view the selected polygon but the selection tool continues to select. How do I keep the selection and turn off the selection tool?

After selecting, you can click the Attributes button next to the selection and view the polygons that you've selected:

To stop the selection tool, click the explore button here:

if i understand you - you want the make a selection with the selection pointer tool.. then zoom or pan to the polygon .. and then have the 'selection boundary' that by default is that bright aqua blue color 'shut off'? there is no real easy way to do this except to clear your selection once you are looking at the feature you are interested in. You could change the default selection boundary in the layer properties to something very neutral or to even be nothing but that might not work well except in a few situations.
