topic Topographic North Arrow in ArcGIS Pro Questions

Hello,

I was working to create a land navigation map to refresh my skills and could not find the declination diagram option in the north arrows. My school computers have the option to add in a military declination diagram in the North Arrow Dropdown. However, I am only seeing the option to add in single lines for magnetic, grid, and true north respectively.

This would not be horrible, however the magnetic north arrow does not even show me the G-M angle, just angle offset which is showing over 1 degree off of what the same area's true military map shows as the GM angle. How do I calculate the G-M angle from this?

Did ArcGIS delete the option to insert a real declination diagram?

Hi @GarrettM182

It looks like from the following link (Add a topographic north arrow) that you will need a Production Mapping licence in order to add a topographic north arrow element that consists of declination diagrams

Grid North (GN)—The north established using the vertical grid lines on the map. Grid North is automatically calculated based on the center point of the chosen map frame.

Do you use a different account or licence ArcGIS Pro differently compared to the computers in your school and personal device?

You will need to select the Topographic group to get the North Arrows you are after.

It looks like the personal license does not contain defense mapping or production mapping, both of which are licenses that have the military-style declination diagram (That shows the Grid, magnetic, and true norths with the appropriate angle for converting between each).

I do not remember what my school has, but i belive it might be a liscense that contains every extension.

I wish the personal liscense option had the defense mapping featues, they are honesetly some of the ones I would use the most.
