Failed to create feature. The coordinates or measures are out of bounds.

When I try to create a new point feature, I get the error "Failed to create feature. The coordinates or measures are out of bounds."

From the help page I read this means the "coordinate of a feature is beyond the extent of the feature class domain" and that "if you need to create a new feature at that x,y location or with those z- or m-values, export the feature class to a new feature class and increase the domain values."

I tried to export my features and change the domain values in the Environment settings to match those of another feature class layer with a larger domain, however the domain does not update in the new output.

Any help is appreciated.

May be well outside the bounds of the coordinate system of the feature class also.

can you give details of the 2 feature classes, bound/domains and coordinate systems? Do love a good screenshot also.

In ArcMap/Catlog, you just change the feature extent (I import from my largest dataset so it covers my entire area).

Have not figured out a way in Pro as of yet.

The domain of the feature class called infrastructure (coordinate system: NAD 1983 MTM) :

The domain of the feature class which is the area of interest in blue (coordinate system: WGS 1984 Web Mercator (auxiliary sphere):

I just realized that maybe changing the domain to match the area of interest domain wasn't working because they have two different coordinate systems... but then again I also tried inputting my own arbitrary domain values and it still didn't work.

You can try to use "Go To XY" feature in ArcGIS Pro to draw/add new features so that we do not het the oit of bounds error.

Or, Click on "Fixed Zoom IN/Zoom out" next to Explore Option as suited. If that does not work, we can try to use the Full Extent to zoom to the full extent of the data in the view.

Hi Vaibhav, thanks for your response. Yes, I am able to go to XY, and mark the location that I want with a pushpin, however this does not allow me to add a point to the feature class. Perhaps you can clarify what you meant?

Do we encounter any other error apart from "Failed to create feature. The coordinates or measures are out of bounds"?

What happens if we try the following:

Open a new catalog project in ArcGIS Pro> right click on the data to add to a new map > right click on the feature layer > zoom to layer > perform editing.

Are we able to edit a different area of interest or is it specific to the area as shown in the screenshot mentioned before?

If adding line features, you can cheat the system by adding a small section of line in an area where it will work and then use "continue feature tool" to keep drawing outside the boundaries. This obviously would not work for point features, though.
