These are stored in two fields, a start date and an end date, which mark the beginning and end of life at a particular site (for example a start date of 400 AD and an end date of 600 AD). In many cases, however, after a certain hiatus (e.g. about three centuries), life at the site revives (and later ends again), and the need arises to enter a new 'start' date (e.g. AD 900) as well as a new 'end' date (e.g. AD 1400). For now, I resolve the issue by artificially dividing the same archaeological site into two different sites ("early" and "late") with only a slight spatial difference from each other and partly different records, each reflecting one of two phases of occupation at the site, but I wonder if there is a more elegant way of achieving the goal and making only one record for one archaeological site with one or more "gaps" in the available temporal data?</P><P>P. S.
