topic Using LIDAR data from USGS in Arcgis Pro in ArcGIS Pro Questions

I am attempting to view lidar point cloud data in arcgis pro. I have downloaded LAZ files from the USGS national map. Then I used the convert las tool in arcgis pro to convert the LAZ. I am using NAD 83 UTM zone 10 N as a coordinate system. When I load the converted LAS into arcgis pro the extent is in the middle of the pacific and not in northern California as it should be. Any ideas where my error is? Thanks in advance

You need to check the metadata from the Data Source. I downloaded one sample LAZ. On checking its metadata, the projection was "NAD_1983_StatePlane_California_III_FIPS_0403_Feet".

I defined the projection "NAD 1983 StatePlane California III FIPS 0403 (US Feet)" while running Convert LAS tool.

Thanks Jayanta, you were correct. The projection information was a bit buried in the metadata, thanks for helping me find it.

The above works, here are a few more directions for clarity:

At the USGS Lidar Explorer Map, click into the "product metadata" (third option under Original Metadata), not the Lidar Metadata which is a dead link at present, and search for the string PROJCS to find the coordinate system. You can copy and paste the name of the specific NAD 1983 projection at the ArcGIS website I'm linking below and then use the four digit code the chart shows you within the Map > Properties >Coordinate Systems search bar. So for the example above, if you search the document and find the ID of 2872, that will bring you right to NAD 1983 HARN StatePlane California III FIPS 0403 Feet.

https://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisexplorer/900/ArcGISExplorer/sdk/html/3d2c0d49-513c-a897-95bc-d4774c4c9777.htm

Check the metadata for your file on the USGS website. The correct coordinate system should be in there somewhere...
