3D Scene view seems slow since last update

I have a project with a scene view of several elevation surfaces and several hundred thousand vector data points plotted in vertical columns. This used to all render within about 20 seconds but recently it takes much, much longer. The 3D surfaces render in the same time but the vector data now takes too long to render - about an hour I guess, if I left it running. The only thing I can think of that has changed is the updated to 2.9.0. Was a default setting changed perhaps? Is there a way to speed this up?

Did you clear out your display cache?

Yeah I did clear out the display cache and no difference. I'll work through some of the options at the link.

My colleague is running version 2.8.0 and we tried the same map with the same data. Her laptop is much slower than mine and it all renders in about 20 seconds no problem.

I found install files for 2.8.0 and can confirm the data renders fine on my laptop with that. For now I will have to stick with this version.
