I removed a bunch of elements and one of these was the problem. Unfortunately, I didn't do them one at a time (no time for such testing!) so cannot say exactly which one was the culprit.

One of my tests revealed that having the mxd data frames in Draft Mode caused a crash. No Draft Mode was more successful.

Every time I import an MXD into my ArcGIS Pro project it crashes immediately. How do I troubleshoot this? I've taken a bunch of functionality out (DDPages, linked images), run mxd doctor on the mxd file but still no luck.

- Running 2.01, Win 10 & Arcmap 10.5.1.

to rule out any or some.

try importing an empty mxd

import one with only one vector file from a locally saved file... repeat with one raster

repeat above with non-local data if you use it.

make a layout

you get the drift... the removing stuff is way too slow, add major items as above, and don't use data you actually want to use in Pro, just simple stuff until you find the 'element' that is causing the crash
