I have tried installing the Solution Deployment Tool on two separate systems. One was performed on ArcGIS Pro 1.4.1 and the second install was at ArcGIS Pro 2.0.0 and both times it has corrupted the base ArcGIS Pro installation.

ArcGIS Pro after installation no longer opens! It goes straight to the report a crash screen. "ArcGIS Pro has encountered a serious application error and is unable to continue." I will have to uninstall all ArcGIS Pro components and re-install the base installation. I can not continue to attempt using the Solutions Deployment Tool it is not safe for installation and I recommend anyone attempting to install this product to stay away. It is a very simple installation that should cause no issues. However, this is not the case.

STAY AWAY!

This will be helpful in debugging what is going on.I worked with several users who have been able to successfully install the add-in and use it so I am really interested to see what may be occurring in your case so we can prevent it from happening for other users.

FAQ: Where are the ArcGIS crash dump files saved when an error report is generated?

Thanks,

-Chris

"ArcGIS Pro has encountered a serious application error and is unable to continue."

My current install of ArcGIS Pro 2.0 is crashing at the blue launch pop-up window and will not open.

This is my second attempt installing the solutions deployment tool. During my first attempt I tried on a different pc using version 1.4.1.

My first attempt at fixing this was in April, 2017.

Hi John,

Below is the exception that is being thrown that is causing the crash. When ArcGIS Pro starts it attempts to unpack any installed add-ins to an AssemblyCache folder in your user profile. This is where the add-in is executed from. It is crashing due to an exception being thrown because your user doesn't have permissions to access that folder. This is different from the folder the add-in is originally installed to, you don't have control over where the add-in dll is unpacked.

However, what is confusing is your user should have access to all folders under your user profile unless an administrator on the machine has restricted access. Is it possible that there could be some custom permissions set on your user profile folders? Could you try browsing to the AssemblyCache folder referenced below? Are you able to create new folders and files in that directory?

Exception object: 0000000003a5fbe0
Exception type: System.UnauthorizedAccessException
Message: Access to the path 'C:\Users\brockwj\AppData\Local\ESRI\ArcGISPro\AssemblyCache\{a8c04e88-6d5d-498d-ad00-b76b409b5cd3}\Newtonsoft.Json.dll' is denied.
InnerException: <none>
StackTrace (generated):
SP IP Function
00000000001DE570 000007FEF4396A23 mscorlib_ni!System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32, System.String)+0x1a3
00000000001DE5C0 000007FEF448E716 mscorlib_ni!System.IO.FileStream.Init(System.String, System.IO.FileMode, System.IO.FileAccess, Int32, Boolean, System.IO.FileShare, Int32, System.IO.FileOptions, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES, System.String, Boolean, Boolean, Boolean)+0x376
00000000001DE690 000007FEF43C807F mscorlib_ni!System.IO.FileStream..ctor(System.String, System.IO.FileMode, System.IO.FileAccess, System.IO.FileShare)+0x7f
00000000001DE740 000007FEED5A9F14 System_IO_Compression_FileSystem_ni!System.IO.Compression.ZipFileExtensions.ExtractToFile(System.IO.Compression.ZipArchiveEntry, System.String, Boolean)+0x84
00000000001DE7B0 000007FE9752A1C0 UNKNOWN!ArcGIS.Desktop.Framework.Registry.Script.ExtractFolder(System.IO.Compression.ZipArchive, System.String, System.String)+0x1b0
00000000001DE830 000007FE97529F6F UNKNOWN!ArcGIS.Desktop.Framework.Registry.Script.UnzipToAssemblyCache(System.IO.Compression.ZipArchive, System.String, System.String ByRef)+0x11f
00000000001DE890 000007FE97529D84 UNKNOWN!ArcGIS.Desktop.Framework.Registry.Script.UnpackAddIn()+0x44
00000000001DE8E0 000007FE9751E3D2 UNKNOWN!ArcGIS.Desktop.Framework.Registry.CustomizationRegistry.ProcessPlugIns(System.Collections.Generic.List`1<ArcGIS.Desktop.Framework.AddInEntry>, System.String)+0x4d2
00000000001DEA00 000007FE972F71AD UNKNOWN!ArcGIS.Desktop.Framework.FrameworkApplication.Initialize()+0x30d
00000000001DEA50 000007FE972E9B86 UNKNOWN!ArcGIS.Desktop.Core.ProApp.Load()+0x446
00000000001DEAC0 000007FE972E399F ArcGISPro!<Module>.main(System.String[])+0x1f

StackTraceString: <none>
HResult: 80070005

I am wondering if it specifically doesn't like writing .dlls to that folder. Could you try changing the add-in file extension to .zip and then extracting the contents. Next inside the install folder copy/paste everything into the AssemblyCache/{a8c04e88-6d5d-498d-ad00-b76b409b5cd3}.

Thanks John, so were you able to get the add-in to work by adding an exception for that folder? I also wanted to note for anyone else who might come across this post in the future that this AssemblyCache folder is used by all add-ins so if you are having an issue with add-ins causing ArcGIS Pro to crash, this might be the cause.
