At least in our licensing environment, the FQDN of the machine is what hits the license server. I discovered this by using ridiculous Pro Workstation alias's (e.g Sasquatch's furry tummy), waiting for the license admin to send out an angry email to the whole org "Who the hell is doing this stop it!".
