      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;This isn't normal or expected (obivously!).&amp;nbsp; If everything is default, it will try to load an online basemap, so I suppose it could get hung up there, but again, not like you're describing.&amp;nbsp; Since you mentioned changing portals, how many portals do you have set up and are they a mix of ArcGIS Online and Enterprise?&amp;nbsp; Have you checked all of them to make sure they're accessible?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Did you shut the machine down, restart and get the same behavior?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

Look in the directory where the intercepts are going. Are new intercepts files being created/updated while you sit there and do nothing? I have something similar, specifically, in project where I have many maps that were NOT OPEN when the project was last saved, AND, the maps point to a variety of data sources (AGOL, Portal, Server, SDE, FGDB), AND, I attempt to open one (just 1 [ONE]) of the maps, I'm in the same boat you are:Pro locks up and the only solution is to kill it with task manager.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Same as above, get your project open, DO NOTHING....let the CPU fans slow down....open another Pro Project. In first Pro Project, open catalog pane, right click on map in question, copy....second pro project, catalog pane, right click on maps...paste.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Are you able to open the map in this second project?&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;We should probably ask...are you trying to open an existing map, or are you getting this on Insert -&amp;gt; New Map?&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;If so, do you have this set:&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;IMG class="image-1 jive-image" src="https://community.esri.com/legacyfs/online/458334_pastedImage_1190.png" /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;Hello &lt;A href="https://community.esri.com/migrated-users/8888"&gt;Thomas Colson&lt;/A&gt;‌,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I do have the Basemap option set to none as part of my previous troubleshooting efforts.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I have tried opening an &lt;STRONG&gt;existing project&lt;/STRONG&gt;, opening a &lt;STRONG&gt;new project with a map&lt;/STRONG&gt; and opening a new project without a map and then &lt;STRONG&gt;adding a map&lt;/STRONG&gt;.&amp;nbsp; In every situation, the map pane just keeps showing its status as Loading.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I have done a lot of troubleshooting of Esri product and have never encountered SDEINTERCEPT.&amp;nbsp; The link you gave me does describe a procedure, but it fails to tell me where I can find SDEINTERCEPT or how to run/enable it.&amp;nbsp; I did find this link:&amp;nbsp;&lt;A class="link-titled" href="https://support.esri.com/en/technical-article/000014807" title="https://support.esri.com/en/technical-article/000014807"&gt;How To: Set up an SDEINTERCEPT log file on a client machine for ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Server&lt;/A&gt; and am trying it now....&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The only way that I can copy a Map (or paste) is to&amp;nbsp;&lt;STRONG&gt;Close&lt;/STRONG&gt; the existing map by right-clicking the map's tab and selecting Close.&amp;nbsp; With no Maps attempting to load, I can paste the copy of another map from another project into the Catalog's Maps folder.&amp;nbsp; I then open that copy and get the same results.&amp;nbsp; Interestingly - if I again right-click the map tab and select&amp;nbsp;&lt;STRONG&gt;Close&lt;/STRONG&gt;, I can then close Pro without killing in Task Manager.&amp;nbsp;&lt;STRONG&gt;***But it takes a good minute to close***&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;SDEINTERCEPT shows no report in its logfile when I open a new project with a map.&amp;nbsp; Now, when I do the copy process, it creates log entries.&amp;nbsp; I'm not sure how to interpret the logs.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Calling technical support today.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;--Adam&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;David, it would be helpful if you could get a case going as well. There are very data/environment specific issues that TS will collect with SDE Intercept and SQL Trace that will inform development specifically where performance issues are, and as you can tell, Pro is getting a lot of shade thrown on it for performance issues. I don't quite have a reproducible case as you two do. Reference this thread with TS, it will help them know what troublshooting has already been done. Same for SDEIntercept, it is best that TS walks you though how to set it up, I only look at how fast the trace files are being generated, only ESRI can interpret the file contents.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;Adam,&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;An update, as of this morning, I am now able to successfully load my projects into ArcGIS Pro.&amp;nbsp; Similar to what you mentioned in your thread, our IT group recently updated Windows on my machine (Build 1903).&amp;nbsp; This morning I updated my Windows installation with two of the automatic updates - one for Windows (KB4512941) and one for .NET (KB4511555).&amp;nbsp; After the installation and re-boot of the two updates, I was able to successfully open a project and load a map.&amp;nbsp; These two items were the only changes made to the system between Pro not loading&amp;nbsp;a map, and loading a map. Prior to that I exhibited the same behavior you described.&amp;nbsp; Not sure if this helps or adds to the mystery....&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Dave&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;It turned out to be Video drivers - one of the first things I should have evaluated.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The catch is - It was not the one for the NVIDIA card, the one that is used for most of the heavy lifting in Pro.&amp;nbsp; &lt;STRONG&gt;It was the one on the motherboard!&lt;/STRONG&gt;&amp;nbsp; I updated the NVIDIA first with no effect.&amp;nbsp; I just updated the on-board video drivers because they were in the list and easily accessible.&amp;nbsp; On a whim, I restarted and ran Pro.&amp;nbsp; It worked!&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Thanks to all!&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;--Adam&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;Hi since everybody now is at home (mars 2020) , I am using the PRo from home, and I noticed the same issue. the behaviour is as follow:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;- State 1&lt;/P&gt;&lt;UL&gt;&lt;LI&gt;not using internet for anything&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;opening ArcGISPRO - no problem&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;/UL&gt;&lt;P&gt;State 2&lt;/P&gt;&lt;UL style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 30px;"&gt;&lt;LI style="margin: 0.2em 0px;"&gt;using internet&amp;nbsp; (runing geocodage or having conference using TEAMS)&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI style="margin: 0.2em 0px;"&gt;opening PRo - PROBLEM - "loading maps" for ever, so in fact I cannot open it.&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;/UL&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;WHY IS IT trying to load maps, if they are off ????. I tried to change setting prior opening new document. still the same.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;thank you for looking at it.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

I get extremely long "loading maps" messages from sde maps services that I am connected with via VPN. I also tried to import a feature class to a local file gdb from an sde server via ArcGIS Pro catalog and it took almost an hour. But it was almost instant when I copied it via SQL Server to a local install and then imported it to the file gdb.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Working from home has opened up a whole new set of problems with ArcGIS. But it still sounds like the eternal "loading maps" is a bug that if nothing else should give you an error that tells you why it isn't loading after...maybe five minutes?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

I've tried several versions of ArcGis Pro with the same result: 'map loading' forever...&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I've also tried to update the motherboard video driver and nothing... Just to help others that may have the same problem: check for Internet Explorer updates. If your IE, for exemple, is the 8 you will have problems...&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;That's how it was solved for me. But how is that possible? Do not have a clue! But the IE version (11) is mentioned as a requeriment for the software to run.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Best regards!&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hi Kate,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Yes, but I'm unsure if it's going to resolve your issue. Basically what we (me + ESRI Support) found was that once my Pro projects had too many maps/layouts in there (100+), it began to severely lag and my maps would never open. It took literally two months of testing and discussions. Lots of troubleshooting. They would literally just spin and spin for hours and do nothing. I have done a TON of trial and error, like closing the map frame, or closing the layout frame, and it would still spin continuously and never open up.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;One thing that I am in the habit of doing now, which has greatly helped is that I always close any map or layout, to clear everything out, and then I save the Project. So that way, when it opens up again, there's nothing to load up and it won't get stuck. Essentially, they determined that there must have been some sort of glitch, or bug in a previous map, and once that existed in the project, there was no going back.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I highly recommend Delpha from ESRI - 888-377-4575 is ESRI's phone number, not sure if this is a direct line to her or not. But she was incredibly patient with me and does not give up.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;According to my notes from ESRI, they ran Procmon on the machine while opening Pro to see if it caught any glitches in local data, as well as Fiddler to check the same things. We also created a new local directory, created a python script which automatically exports the maps and layouts (basically saves a copy, except directly from Pro, rather than file explorer).&amp;nbsp; This way we could troubleshoot and see if those copies would open up. We also of course tried copying maps/layouts to a brand new project. Ended up sharing the project package with her. It was eventually determined that a particular map/layout was the cause of the issues moving forward with the Pro project - maybe corrupt data, etc.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I honestly do not recall what EXACTLY fixed my issue. But I do know now that I am working with multiple Pro projects, rather than just one. So as an example, I have created one for: Planning Board Maps, Properties, Asset Management, Data Edits, Synced maps from AGOL/Enterprise, etc. So that everything isn't all in one project. And like I said, closing out the maps/projects then saving the project has helped me greatly.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Thank you for sticking around with this lengthy response, but I think it may help you.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>
