idea Create bivariate symbols for continuous data (Proportionnal symbol + color ramp) in ArcGIS Pro Ideas

I daily need to represent two sets of information with continuous data. As I want to keep my symbol proportionnal, I can't use the "multiple variable" option that exists now.

With Arview 3.2 there was a script that allow to create a bivariate symbol with the size of the symbol being proportionnal and it's color linked to another variable with data ranges.

I have been able to accomplish this for point data using representations (described in comments here). However, having proper built-in support for bivariate data would be much better. For points, proportional/color is probably the most common.

Hi @vincentleroux

ArcGIS Desktop is in mature support and will be retired March 1, 2026 so we won’t be considering this idea. We recommend that you migrate to ArcGIS Pro, our fully supported desktop GIS application.

ArcGIS Pro includes Bivariate Colors symbology, which is explicitly designed to visualize two quantitative (continuous) variables in one layer

Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas. We truly appreciate your contributions to continuously improving the software to help you do your work and look forward to what ideas you have for ArcGIS Pro.
