idea Manage Layer Groups with Python in ArcGIS Pro Ideas

I have needed to manage layer groups in ArcMap many a time, across 77+ county maps. I would like to be able to update the entire group layer rather than have to write code to do each layer. All the for loops and what not when it would be so easy to just apply it to the entire group.

Re: Manage Layer Groups with Python - Status changed to: Needs Clarification

I realize this is an old request. Can you please clarify the workflow and provide example of what you are trying to do? We won't make new arcpy.mapping changes to ArcMap but if this is still a requirement for ArcGIS Pro, please provide more detail.

Jeff - arcpy.mp and Layout teams

Closed pending further clarification. As Jeff noted, ArcGIS Desktop is in mature support and will be retired March 1, 2026 so we won’t be considering this idea specifically for arcpy.mapping (in ArcMap). We recommend that you migrate to ArcGIS Pro, our fully supported desktop GIS application. See Migrate from ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro for more information. Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas. We truly appreciate your contributions to continuously improving the software to help you do your work and look forward to what ideas you have for ArcGIS Pro.
