idea Support Applying Project Templates to existing Projects in ArcGIS Pro in ArcGIS Pro Ideas

Project Templates are extremely useful. They allow us to provide end users with a standard set of Styles, Folder Connections, Server Connections, DB Connections etc. so that when they are getting to work, everything they need is right at their fingertips.

However, sometimes our users get started with a blank project only to find out later that they should have started with one of our Project Templates. In this case, there is no way for them to go back and apply the template to their existing project, adding those folder connections, styles, server connections, defaulting the basemap, etc.

It would be nice to be able to let users apply a template to existing projects.

Hello @JohnDye,

Thank you very much for your feedback!

Unfortunately it is not feasible currently to do what you were suggesting. While we research to find a solution to your problem, we suggest that, as a workaround for the time being, you ask your users to recreate their project using the intended project template, and then quickly copy over the project contents from the existing project to the new one created with the intended project template. You can achieve this fairly quickly by drag-drop. For example, with both projects open, project A being the project created with the unintended template, and project B being the project created with the intended template, you can drag a folder connection from under Folders in project A and drop it onto Folders in project B (available in ArcGIS Pro 3.0), with the effect of adding this folder connection to project B. Similarly you can drag a server connection from under Servers in project A and drop it onto Servers in project B, with the effect of adding this server connection to Project B. Note also that you can drag-drop multiple folders (or server connections) together.
