idea Add water pump to Flood Sim in ArcGIS Pro Ideas

Currently, flood simulation only support rainfall and waterbodies as inputs. It would be nice if we can integrate water pumps to artificially transfer water from one area to another, where we can input the desired suction force of each pump.

Thanks kntr!

In the short term we're looking to add in a new element for Water Sink Areas, where water can be removed from the area-of-interest at a given rate. This is for use-cases where storm water systems (or pumps) are removing water from a location inside the area-of-interest (at a given maximum flow rate) and we need to model if that area will still get inundated from the other water inside the AOI.

Once we've added "sinks", modeling water moving from one location to another (within the same AOI and same scenario) could potentially be done with a manual combination of water sinks and water sources. That is, set the timing of a water source in the AOI so it starts pushing out water at an increasing rate some-number-of-minutes into the scenario. It’s rudimentary and approximated but the water would effectively “move”. Providing a way to connect the flow between the two elements (in the same simulation) is something we’d need to look at for a future release.

Thank you for the input!

-Nathan.

Thanks! It's a reasonable idea. It would be good to see if other flood modeling users think it should be a priority against other potential work.

Hi @NathanShephard

Thanks for the update! I have tested the Sink Area in Pro 3.5 and I think it's a great addition for flood in urban areas.

However, is there a plan to support adding Water Sinks as Points instead of Area (Polygons)? The Polygons represent an area, but it would be great if we can simulate "water pumps" as an exact pair of coordinates. (exact location).

Below is an example of a water pumping station that I'd love to include into Flood Simulation. I think it's best represented as a point instead of a polygon. Please let me know your thoughts.

kntr_0-1755494539621.jpeg

Cheers,

kntr
