Add setting to show full path in all geoprocessing etc dialog boxes - EDIT: Partially Implemented.

In many dialog boxes Pro will only show the input or output feature class name and not the path.

When you click on the name it will expand to show the full path but move it so your mouse is no longer over the point you clicked on. If you planned on doing a click & drag to select some characters to edit/remove things get out of wack easily.

Also - if you are working with Feature Datasets, Pro doesn't play nice and you have to add the FD in every time, thereby starting a mess of paths & not paths & potential to save something in the root fgdb instead of the FD and so on.

Just add a setting in Global Options to always show the full path.

For geoprocessing, have you unchecked 'Display data paths as shortened names'?

Under Catalog Browsing there is also 'Complete path':

I realize the idea is for geoprocessing etc dialog boxes but I'm wondering if these help?

@KoryKramer - trying to get this sorted while getting real work done.

It only partially works - if you drag a layer in from Catalog it shows the path. If you drag a layer in from within the map it doesn't always show the path aka it shows the object as being in the root of the map.

I understand the display showing a folder path vs a map path i.e. shows group if layer in a group, but working between different projects, computers, etc, it is just not always clear what's going on.

Can you add a character or symbol in front of a map path vs a folder path?

As I'm sure you know, layers and data sources are fundamentally different. Layers store things like symbology, definition queries, selections, filters like time and range, and so on. That is very different than just pointing to a data source. https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/analysis/geoprocessing/basics/run-geoprocessing-tools.htm

So dragging a layer into a tool as the tool's input should not switch to only reference the data source, nor indicate that the direct data source is the tool's input.

Indeed.

Hence the request to show some form of an identifier to easily see which of the two are active.

Add this to the list of items justifying being able to export a Pro config easily and access it when logging in to a new machine / different machine.
