Calculate Field — Exclude un-editable fields from Field Name parameter

ArcGIS Pro 3.2.2; File Geodatabase

In the Calculate Field tool, fields like Shape_length are available in the Field Name parameter drop-down. However, Shape_Length is not editable and will throw an error if the user tries to do a field calculation on it.

Is there a reason why uneditable fields need to be included in that pick list? Or can they be excluded?

ERROR 160143: Field is not editable.

Hello @Bud, This is a good idea, you shouldn't have to run the tool to find out there was an issue.

Our team is going to keep this idea under consideration for a future release of Pro.

Hi Bud, This idea is implemented in ArcGIS Pro 3.5.

The Calculate Field tool's Field Name parameter will exclude read-only fields.

This includes fields like Shape length, Shape area, Global IDs, and editor tracking fields to avoid getting an error when you run the tool.
