In a project with hundreds of possible labels among dozens of features, the ability to label only the items you want to be labeled and only in the exact location the label needs to be is a must. The only options currently available are to turn labels into graphics or annotations. That is a slow and clumsy process. ArcMap maps had a graphics layer built in which was convenient in some cases but problematic in others.
