Symbol Preview Placement in the Drawing Order

Hey,

I am regularly working with multiple layers that run off the screen. I want to compress the view of my layers without giving up the symbol type. The idea is to move the symbol preview to the right or left of the layer. Picture attached shows what I'm after.

Users of QGIS would be familiar with this setup.

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately sometimes horizontal real estate is just as scarce as vertical real estate in the Contents pane. Do you think having some sort of "hover" for the symbol preview would work for this instead? In that mode you wouldn't be able to see all symbols at once, but you could compress the layers and just hover to see some symbols. Let me know if you think that would be a sufficient improvement.
