AGOL Append Issues

I am trying to append a point shapefile to an existing point hosted feature layer on AGOL.

I append a zipped shapefile , use the field mapping tool to match the fields, and it says it uploaded it successfully. I go to the data and see there are more records in the layer (however not as many as there should be) and the new data does not show up anywhere. If I re-index the layer the number of records drops back down to the previous amount before the append.

I have added the new data (that I would like to append) as it's own hosted layer just to make sure it uploads properly and works fine that way - I just cannot append it to the existing data.

Does anyone know why the append tool is currently not working properly?
