Inability to load a time-enabled polygon dataset as a feature service instead of a table.

ArcGIS Pro Version: 2.8.1

I am trying to upload a time-enabled polygon dataset to AGOL. I have a layer of hexagons where each cell contains a value per year, allowing me to show distribution over time. The years are contained in a date field that displays fine inside Pro:

When I attempt to upload this to AGOL in order to get time-enabled data for a web app however, it uploads as a table, and I cannot interact with it further:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - I have tried uploading it as a shapefile, and as json but neither worked (random "this is a error" messages both times).
