Error: "Geodatabase duplicate code"

I have a layer on my field map that shows an orange triangle with an exclamation point in it, and below the layer name it says "Geodatabase duplicate code". Field Maps won't let me edit this layer, and repeatedly fails to download any maps with this layer present. I think it's an error for a duplicate FID, so to get around it, I made a new feature layer based on the corrupted one, and I still receive the same error, but only after I formatted the layer to have codes and list values for fields. HOW CAN I FIX THIS?
