I have added a couple map services from ArcGIS Online (specifically, the GeoMac Fire files), and the service seems to be invalid now. I cannot delete the Map Service from my Table of Contents in ArcMap. It hangs, and never lets me right click and Remove. Is there another way to delete the service from ArcGIS TOC?

Typically, when a service is not available, you'll see an error message saying something like "layer x is not available..."

At this point, the layer should not be visible in the TOC when viewing the map. If you save the map in its current state, the layer that is not responding will not be saved in the map.

Hope this helps,

Mike

The deletion bug can also be caused by having a space in the service name. See #NIM082740. Another NIM (#NIM080606 - An ArcGIS Online hosted feature service can only be overwritten if it is located in the user's root content directory) was related to this error but it has been removed from the Support site.

Also, be careful if you Change Owner. I'm not sure if this is still an issue since the last patch but ownership changes can lock a file as well.
