Rectangle polygons turn into triangles in AGO

I am bringing in polygons for a cemetery into AGO - they turn into triangles... any idea why? They are all have only 4-vertices - pictures below. Thanks - Dan

Run a Check Geometry on your file. Although a rectangle looks like it only has 4 points, it should have 5 with the first and the last being duplicates.

I ran the check geometry tool, no results. I also spot-checked my polygons in Desktop, and they only have 4 vertices for each corner.

Check is good. You won't 'see' more than 4 points, but since check is ok, then it might be a projection issue. Web Mercator?

The projection of my original data is not in WGS 1984 Web Mercator (Auxiliary Sphere) as I know AGO is by default. But, upon changing my data's projection to that, 1. I still get the same result, and 2. The data lands in the middle of Africa now... AGO takes my original projection (StatePlane) and puts it exactly where it needs to be, and always has - so I don't think it's a projection issue.

Kelly can you figure this one out? I suspect it has to do with the Projecting the data or with AGOL and a geometry issue

I've never seen this before. Dan Rose, can you share the data or the web map or get in contact with support? I also suspect that this has something to do with the projection or transformation but won't be able to fully identify the issue without seeing the data.

Hi Kelly - thank you for the reply. I've also had a circle polygon turn into a square/diamond in another app - same .mxd. Since this is not an official/released web map yet, I'd rather connect with you via email.

I hope you are creating the geometry in either ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro... sounds like a geometry issue if all shapes are going weird

Dan,

What format is your data in? Shapefile, geodatabase, CAD, etc.? Can you try exporting to a file geodatabase and publishing that instead?

Instead of check geometry, have you tried a Repair Geometry?

Yes, everything was created in ArcGIS, 10.3.1.

Feature classes in a file GDB; I tried that tool yesterday, too - same results.

Hmmm, well, I agree with Kelly that maybe getting in touch with Esri Technical Support would be a good move at this point.

Thanks to Ms. Kelly (thank you again), it was user error... I was not clicking 'Keep original features'... All is well, but a good test on all your brains, right? Also, details I left out include that I'm testing a non-feature service scenario, adding my data from a file. It's my interim solution to an issue that will soon go away. Sorry, and thank you all again.
