creating a local copy for editing

Hi,
I have the subscription account. I published a hosted editable feature service and when I was trying to make a local copy for editing on my desktop 10.1 I recieved the following error: " a local copy could not be created. input buffer is empty or contains invalid UTF8 charecters.; state: Empty;Buffer:"

What does it mean???

How are you trying to make the local copy. Are you trying to make a copy of the feature service or underlying shapefile?

this specific feature service I can not make publice but I have another feature service which is public that returns this error (when I try to make a local copy for editing) : a local copy could not be created. ReadChunk failed; state: inPropertyName; buffer: "RepjectIdFieldName": "OBJECTID", globalIdFieldName

What is the data source you use to create the service? Does it have valid UTF8 characters in it?

We are able to reproduce the second error with the service you provided. Will it be available for a while?

The data source is a feature class in GDB.
the feature service is open to the public for adding new points and filling the information about each point.

At first, the feature was in our server but after we experienced meny problems we made it a hosted service.

Now we can't take it back with the local copy...

As the owner of the item, you can export the data to a shapefile that will appear in My Content. Just navigate to the item, find the Layers section and click the arrow next to the layer name to export to shapefile.

Hi,
I know that I can export as a shape file.
But the feature contains domains in it and also attachments - so shape file is not solving my problem.
When I published the feature class as a hosted service I thought I could bring in back to my local computer by using "creat local copy".

I still don't understand why I can't do it.

If I know what the problem is, I know not to repeat it with other features.

Still waiting for an answer.

Most likely, you are encountering a bug. Unfortunately, without a reproducible case there's not much we can do to debug the problem. Would you be able to take a subset of your data and publish it to reproduce the problem? And then share the data with us? The problem seems to be related to the character set in your attributes.

The second problem you encountered that returned this error: "a local copy could not be created. ReadChunk failed" we've reproduced and identified as a bug that needs to be fixed in ArcGIS Desktop.

I will try to check again the feature, maybe copy it to a new empty feature class in a new GDB.

If the problem continue I will post a new thread with a link to the service.
