You've found a bug! We have a problem displaying image services when embedded. This won't be fixed until we release the next update to arcgis.com early next year. The workaround is to remove the image service layer:

https://gisservice.mt.gov/arcgis/rest/services/NAIP/ImageServer

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Mike

Looks like there are some extra blank spaces in your text. I'm not sure how they got embedded into the embed code.

In the first case, look for "webmap=" and remove the space between the e and 9, then again between the 8 and 6.

In the second case, there is a missing closing iframe at the end...append this to the end "</iframe>" without the quotes.

Here they are working...
http://mikeandrika.blogspot.com/

Good luck,

Mike

No, it should only be one block of code. I'm not sure how the extra spaces are getting introduced when you copy and paste the code block.

What you should see in the dialog window is this code. The bold red text below shows where an extra space is getting inserted, but shouldn't. Compare it to the code you pasted in. I've removed it here.

<iframe width="500" height="400" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/embedViewer.html?webmap=17bc60b3d4084eaab11c42406e9ff186&amp;bing=true"></iframe><br /><small><a href="http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=17bc60b3d4084eaab11c42406e9ff186" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left" target="_blank">View Larger Map</a></small>

The short term solution is to just remove the spaces and it should just work. When I open your map and copy the embed code, I don't get any extra spaces in the embed code. What browser and version are you using? Where are you copying the code into? Maybe there are some differences.

When you look at the code in the dialog box in arcgis.com, are there spaces already there for you? I'm guessing not.

Another option would be to try pasting the code into Notepad and seeing what it looks like. Are there extra spaces?

Thanks,

Mike

When I look at the code I have on my computer, there are no spaces.

So we're back to square 1.

FYI, here's what I've been doing.
1 - publish & share map
2 - Copy code from "embed in web site" window, the code we've been talking about
3 - Paste that code into a new e-mail message
3a - Save the e-mail as a draft (but not sent)
4 - Open the e-mail message, Ctrl-click to test the links
5 - The one block of code appears to have 2 links, see attached JPEG "roads_code"
6 - When I click on the first link, it takes me to the site shown in attached JPEG "roads2"
6a - when I click on the second link, it takes me to the site shown in attached JPEG "roads1"
7 - Here are the 2 URLs, copied from Firefox -
http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/embedViewer.html?webmap=17bc60b3d4084eaab11c42406e9ff186&amp;bing=true&amp;zoom=true&amp;scale=true

http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=17bc60b3d4084eaab11c42406e9ff186

Thanks

Embedded code can't be copied and pasted into emails. Typically, you use the embed code inside a hosted web page. For example, you might copy the code into a .html file, put that file on your web server and serve it up. Your web page will then contain the embedded map. Alternatively, you can embed it into another website, such as a blog, like I did here:

http://mikeandrika.blogspot.com/

Both of your maps are shown in the blog.

What exactly do you want to do? If you want to send a link to your map through email, copy the link that's shown on the share dialog. See attachment.

Thanks,

Mike

I would say that pasting it into Notepad would be guaranteed to work... They would then paste it into the web page to serve up.

You are correct that part of the embed code is a valid URL to the map that will allow it to display in arcgis.com. But, it's not really meant to be used directly as links you send to someone.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike - I thought we had it figured out, but ....
I sent both blocks of html code to the person who maintains our web page, and she is having problems.

Is there any way you or another expert could call her and walk her through the process?

If not, here's what she told me -
If she copies a block of code in its entirety, she gets an error message like "page can not be read."
If she omits the frame formatting code up to the "http://xxxxxxxx" portion, the map will load, but scroll controls are not visible, and the map is unconfined, fills the entire page.

From what I can understand, she is coding our home page manually, not using any page building software or templates.

Thanks,
Tim

If you need to speak with someone, you would need to call ESRI technical support, as those of us who monitor the forums are not set up to handle calls. Sorry. Also, my web programming skills are basic at best 🙂

I've attached a text file that you can look at. This allows you to embed your map on a web page. I've embeded your map in my test blog.

http://mikesarcgismaps.blogspot.com/2011/07/fire-map.html

If you simply want to link to a map and have it display inside arcgis online, then this is the URL you need:

http://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=b8b4a1caec2c48748f419cc880039535

Hope this helps,

Mike

What web browser are you using? That may be an issue too. I'm using Chrome and can see the map display. However, it is slow to display. It takes about 10 seconds before I can see it.

Your map is kind of big, 6MB. In the desktop world, it's not big, but in the web, it is. It's a 6MB download of data to the web browser (which takes 2-4 seconds itself), then the web browser has to draw all the shapefile data.

Did you use the generalize option when adding the shapefile to the map? That will help make the data a little smaller. Also, if you have ArcGIS Desktop, you can generalize the data yourself before you add it to the map. The smaller you can make the shapefile, the better your map will perform.

Thanks,

Mike
