Mapping Research Collaborations

Hi Everyone;

I'm a complete nubie. I work at a non profit biomedical research institution, we have 34 research labs where we do biomedical research related to cancer and infectious disease. I am mapping the collaborations of our researchers with other research institutions around the globe as points on a world map. Although I have a spreadsheet of all collaborative institutions, researchers, and address info, I have not been able to import this in bulk. For now, I'm content to search for the location, add and format a pin, and enter the information for that pin.

What's the best use of Image Link, and Image Link Url ? Should I create a directory of our researcher's headshots? Which link goes where?

What I would suggest is to get your data into CSV format. Then, you will be able to map the addresses in Explorer Online (http://www.arcgis.com/explorer). Currently, only Explorer Online can add a layer with addresses (up to 250 address locations) to a web map. Explorer Online is simply another application that can create and read web maps. Just sign in with your same username.

The Image Link is the URL to the image on the web somewhere. This would be the URL to the actual head shot of the researcher. The Image Link URL is a URL that will open a new browser window if someone clicks on the image in the popup window. You might, for example, provide a URL to a website that shows information about the person.
