Adding ArcGIS Server Map Services to ArcGIS Online

Hello,

I am having some issues adding ArcGIS Server Map Services to ArcGIS Online.

The reason for wanting to do this is to enable my to access the map services on iPads via the iPad ArcGIS application (and then logging in to ArcGIS account from there).

We have ArcGIS Server 9.3.1 Service Pack 2.

The map services are viewable externally in IE, and the also can be viewed in Google Earth.

However whenever I attempt to add them to ArcGIS online, nothing happens.

Process "My Content | Add Item | An ArcGIS Web Server Service" just hangs when I point it at the web services.

Alternatively, "Map | Add | A GIS Server" results in the message "URL does not point to an ArcGIS server or ArcGIS server is not responding."

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually it doesn't load correctly in Google Earth or in ArcGIS Explorer. I think the article relating the the URL setup for the REST services may relate to this aswell.

That worked!

Now does anyone know if it possible to change the zoom scales on the scalebar in maps created in ArcGIS Online. I need to be able to zoom in a lot closer than the maximum zoom setting on the zoom slider?

Unfortunately, you can't change the zoom slider. The scale levels are determined by the base map you're using. You can, however, set your own custom basemap. When you Add layers to your map, there is an option that appears to use the layer as a basemap instead.

I believe you've encountered a bug in ArcGIS Server. The problem is you have a folder name on your GIS server that begins with a number. This causes your server to return some invalid information, and thus, arcgis.com can't connect to your server. You can either upgrade your server to the latest version, or simply try renaming your folder named 2011 so that it begins with a letter.

On your GIS server, you have a folder named "2011". You need to rename this so the name begins with a letter. For example rename it to "Year 2011", "a2011" or anything that begins with a letter.
