Use Map Service as Base Layer?

I uploaded a server definition from ArcMap10.1 final to AGO and created the cache.
Now I got a Map Service that perfectly works in any map.

It is possible to use such a Map Service as a Base Layer?

Yes, when you add the layer to the web map, you can choose to "use as basemap".

If you're adding from the Add>Search for layers option, you need to click on the layer name in the add panel to see the option to use as basemap. If you use the Add> layer from web option, and enter a URL, then you'll see a checkbox to set the layer as the basemap.

Ah, I see.
But this is only possible in the ArcGIS.com Viewer, not in the ArcGIS Explorer, right?

The workflow for setting the basemap in Explorer Online is slightly different. When you create a new map, choose the "advanced" option to set a custom basemap.
