Directions Web Mapping Application Question

I'm trying out the Directions Web Mapping Application and I am running into this error:

Route service description was not reached or recognized. Please check service URL and/or user credentials, if specified.
Unable to route these addresses

Has anyone encountered this before?

Where should I start to look to solve this problem? How and what do I check for the service URL?

The point layer I want to use for the directions is there. When I select one of the points and press the radial (symbolized like a car) I get the error messages.

My role is publisher in my ArcGIS online organization. Is that what is meant by credentials?

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
