Editing (and saving) a map you do not own

As an administrator, should you not be able to edit (and save) any map, even if you are not the owner ?

How can a map be made accessible for editing by anyone ?

Changing owners each time someone has to work on a product can be cumbersome.

Is there a way to achieve this ?

When you say "editing a map" do you mean the layers in a map?

Anyone can open an MXD and save it. The same goes for layers (shapefiles, geodatabase)

The only way to limit editing is if you have a SDE Server.

Sorry, a little clarification is in order !

This is a Web Map on AGOL. User A created it and therefore owns it. User B would like to modify the User As Web Map and save that original version. The changes are made, but the Save button is grayed out. The Save As button is enabled, thereby creating a copy of the original map.

I don't anticipate this being a common occurrence in my organization, and the workaround for me was to change the owner to User B so he could edit and save the original.

The questions would be:

* Is there a way around the scenario above, or is this a limitation of AGOL at this stage ?
* Should the Administrator of the organization not be able to edit any Web Map, even if he does not own it ?

Hi Oliver,

Both "Save" and "Save as" are saving web maps only to My content which is different for each user and they have nothing to do with editing. It's like you save an mxd in Desktop.

If you edit something in a feature service ArcGIS Online saves it immediately there is no need to click any save buttons. Thus every user can edit it no matter who owns the data.

Try to edit something with user A then close the map and open it with user B, you have to see the changes.
