AGOL Crowdsource Reporter – Accessibility (WCAG) Enhancement

We would like to see accessibility enhancements made to the current AGOL crowdsource reporter template.

Rationale: In Ontario, there is Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). It uses WCAG 2.0 Level A and Level AA as the basis for web content, which includes interactive mapping. The Ontario government follows this very strictly and web apps are not able to release publicly if not proven they are AODA compliant.

Below are some potential areas for improvements in the crowdsource reporter template that are identified under WCAG requirements:

1.1.1 Non-Text Content (Criteria: All non-text content that is presented to the user has a text alternative) -

Alt-text aren’t identified in areas e.g. Background cover image, Map, Logo, etc.

2.1.1 Keyboard (Criteria: All functionality of the content is operable through a keyboard interface without requiring specific timings for individual keystrokes) -

Sign-in and welcome pop-ups cannot be navigated with the keyboard. Sign-in and help links in header can’t be reached with keyboard.
While keyboard navigating the page, focus isn’t clear. There should be an outline which delineates where the focus is when using keyboard tabbing.
Side panel on the right can’t be navigated with keyboard.
Zoom and home controls on map are accessible, but not the search button.
Submission form works but some controls aren’t accessible
Keyboard drawing for submitting a project area should be provided as an option for users to use
