Publish a webmap to a user without an ArcGIS License

I need to publish a webmap created in ArcGIS to a customer who'll never use GIS (in terms of creating features, maps or anything else) which is NOT public.

We can create data, we can analyze data, we can create maps, scenes and presentations but we can't publish it to a specific customer.

ArcGIS Online developed into a very useful tool for us, but without a publishing function something essential is missing!

To make ArcGIS Online complemented this final part of a workflow has to be implemented.

We create data and maps for customers and give it to them in PDF and printed maps. If we provide it also as a webmap, we have an advantage to all who aren't using GIS but CAD!

Can you explain this a bit further? It seems that if you want to provide/publish a webmap to a specific user, you can add them as a user and give only them access to it.

as much as I know, this user must have an ArcGIS Online account for its own for your way of providing a webmap. our customers / users mainly don't have an account.

it could be similar to youtube: there you can create a playlist, define wheter it's private or public, share a link other users.

Your user doesn't need their own AGOL account, you can provide them with a username and password from your organizational AGOL account.

does that mean, that our customers get their own "guest account" with "read only" rights?

or do we have to give them our username / password, which we use to log in?

I am assuming you have an AGOL organization account with a spare user seat available. Create a user in your organizational account and give them whatever permissions you like, eg reatrict them to just the map, limit edit ability etc, then provide the credentials to your client to access the map. This will keep it private. You may want to create a new role, the default Esri user role may be too permissive for your needs.

You should not give them your administrative user credentials.

If you do not have a spare user available, you could set up a proxy that uses your credentials and points at the map, but there is alwaus a chance they could navigate elsewhere.

we have two ArcGIS licenses and therefore two AGOL users. thus it's possible to give one our two AGOL users to one for our customers. but this not a satisfying as you can imaging, as we loose a user in our company and we can only share a map to one single customer.

what to you mean with proxy user? free test account?
